Atherstone Dickens Night

Summer In The Square 2006

26 August 2006

Our first summer in the square event was a resounding success, even though the weather tried to put a dampener on it early in the evening.

After a short rain interval it soon dried up and people returned to the square for an excellent evenings entertainment from Celebration Sounds Disco and a superb young singer Jason Dean and his dancers.

The market square gave its usual best and looked great with the stage in front of the floodlit church and the square full of people enjoying themselves and sampling the pig roast and chocolate fountain. The evening ended at 11pm with scores of people returning home having enjoyed what we presented.

Our Guest of honour was the Atherstone Town Council Mayor Councillor Ruby Chambers who made the raffle draw and was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the event chairman Ray Jarvis, after the event Ruby commented that she had thoroughly enjoyed herself and was proud to have been invited.

Positive Feedback

During the evening many comments were made (all complimentary) and asking us to present more evenings like this.

"Just a few words to thank everyone involved in the Summer in the Square event on 26 August. It was a very enjoyable night and we only wish that there were more events of this kind in the square which is massively underused. It was also so good to see so many families enjoying the event in the safe, traffic-free environment. Maybe next year we could have an event once a month in the summer with perhaps a childrens' entertainer to start off with followed by a group or singer. We would also love to see the jazz band again that played in the square a couple of years ago!! Well done again and many thanks. We do appreciate all the hard work and effort that goes into the organisation of these events and will certainly continue to support them."
