New Dickens Night officers appointed
31 December 2005
Plans for next year are already well in hand for one of Atherstone’s premier events. After pulling a record crowd in November 2005, estimated at in excess of 10,000, new officers have been appointed ready for the 2006 event.
Retiring chairman, Cllr. Geoff Taylor has voiced his support for the people who have volunteered to stage the event.“I have enjoyed my time with the Dickens’s Night committee.” He said. “But business pressures and other considerations mean that I must now stand aside and let others take up the reigns.” A public meeting was held at The Red Lion Hotel in Long St. on December 22nd when attendees voted in a new chairman, vice chair and secretary.
Newly elected chairman Ray Jarvis, a born and bred Atherstonian has vowed his intent to take Dickens’s night from strength to strength. “I have a difficult act to follow.” He said. “ But Dickens’s night is an important point in the town’s calendar. This is a truly magnificent community occasion, when practically the entire population of the town come together.
We intend to involve even more organisations next year and will need the support of both local business and individuals. But I am confident we will get this support. Dickens’s night is definitely on for 2006.” |
